A number of African countries have engaged in adopting laws and/or other measures aimed at regulating ABS. The ABS Compendium offers a comparative analysis of the ABS legislation of a number of African countries with a view to facilitate experience sharing between countries which have ABS legislation in place and those which have not.

The section Presentations and other documents offers presentations and other background documents on ABS regulations in place or under development for download which have been presented and discussed in the context of one of the workshops organised by the Initiative.

The database on access and benefit-sharing measures includes measures which have been taken by Governments or relevant organisations to assist with the implementation of access and benefit-sharing provisions of the Convention. The database covers a broad range of measures such as: national or regional strategies, policies, legislations, regulations, community management plans, guidelines or codes of conducts on access and benefit-sharing. It includes measures undertaken at the regional, national, sub-national, community or local level.

GRAIN: Database on Biodiversity Rights Legislation

The database on Biodiversity Rights Legislation (BRL) is a collection of emerging and existing laws that directly affect people's control over biodiversity in developing countries. It compiles those legislative texts that define rights in relation to genetic resources or to the knowledge associated with those materials. As a tool to follow what is going on in this area, the BRL includes both draft and adopted legislation.
