Seychelles is a marine and terrestric bioprospecting hotspot and has, as an early mover, developed and implemented ABS regulation. To date the ABS Initiative is cooperating with the government of the island state on identifying ABS business partnerships and updating the country's regulation.
Seychelles hosted a Parliamentarian Briefing on ABS for the Southern African Development Community in September 2012. The ABS Initiative backstopped this meeting with its expertise.
Seychelles ratified the Nagoya Protocol in April 2012.
