Launching the ABS Capacity Development Initiative for Africa

The Dutch-German ABS Capacity Development Initiative for Africa was officially launched at this side event.
Representatives of the ABS Initiative presented the results of a African Convention on Biologica
Diversity (CBD) National Focal Points survey on the national capacity building requirements and the core elements for future activities including multi-stakeholder workshops, issue- and stakeholder-focused trainings, identification of best practices and the conduction of regional background studies.
About 70 participants of COP-8 attended the side event, among them representatives from national governments, UN agencies, intergovernmental (such as IUCN) and non-governmental organisations, indigenous and local community groups, academia and industry.
This side event was organised by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation, The Netherlands (DGIS) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ).
