Implementation of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA)

5-6 December 2013, Suva, Fiji

Participants discussed issues pertinent to the ratification of the ITPGRFA in the Pacific region, in particular countries who have already confirmed SPC willingness to ratify the Treaty, but need assistance on the ratification process. A representative of the ABS Initiative explained the Convention on Biological Diversity and Nagoya Protocol and its relation to the treaty.

During a panel discussion overarching issues between International Treaty and Nagoya Protocol were discussed.

As one major outcome SPC country focal points in Agriculture understand the different provisions mechanisms of the two instruments, Nagoya Protocol and ITPGRFA.

This event was organized and hosted by the Genetic Resources Team of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) Land Resources Division (LRD).
